Today, Hawley megadonor Richard Uihlein gave $2 million to Republican Illinois gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives after she released an ad that has been widely rebuked by leaders in her own party as “anti-immigrant, ‘racist,’ ‘sexist’ and ‘transphobic.'” Illinois GOP chairman Tim Schneider found the spot so repulsive that he called on Ives to pull it down.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last week that Uihlein donated $2 million to Club for Growth Action Missouri, a SuperPAC dedicated to supporting Hawley’s Senate candidacy, making him the SuperPAC’s sole donor. Uihlein was also the top donor to a SuperPAC supporting Roy Moore — choosing to support Moore following allegations that Moore sexually abused women and girls as young as 14 years old.
“In the six months since Josh Hawley filed his candidacy, he has declined to tell Missourians where he stands on countless key issues. But with Uihlein backing Moore, Hawley, and Ives, I guess Missourians can see for themselves the kind of company Hawley keeps,” said Missouri Democratic Party Deputy Communications Director Brooke Goren.
