Columbia, Mo. – From Springfield and Joplin to Jefferson City, Missourians across the state woke up to the front page news today that Governor Eric Greitens has removed another education board appointee. This is the latest move in the Governor’s ongoing scheme to overthrow the state’s top education official in order to favor billionaires and dark money donors with an anti-public school agenda.
“Eric Greitens is once again selling out Missourians — this time school children — to benefit his millionaire and billionaire donors,” Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber added. “It’s clear that Missouri’s dark money governor makes his political decisions based on who the highest bidder is.”
- Eric Greitens is a major beneficiary of dark money donations, including from many donors who are trying to advance an agenda that strips taxpayer dollars from public schools to fund private vouchers. The Kansas City Star pointed out that during his 2016 campaign, Greitens “…accepted more than $370,000 from some of the country’s top school-choice proponents, including Betsy DeVos, now the U.S. education secretary.”
- According to the Associated Press, Greitens has also refused to explain why “he wants a new commissioner to lead the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.”
