JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – As President Donald Trump is slamming the House-passed Trumpcare bill, which all of Missouri’s GOP Representatives voted for, as “mean,” Republican Senators continue to keep their version of the overhaul locked behind closed doors.
In particular, President Trump is abandoning the health care bill that all of Missouri’s Republicans in the U.S. House supported, as new reports are revealing how the legislation would undercut health care for older and working Missourians, in addition to spiking costs and gutting protections for individuals who’ve been sick before. First, the Missouri Hospital Association recently detailed how the legislation would short Medicaid, deeply harming rural Missouri. And second, a new analysis from the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities shows that the uninsured rate for children would increase by 50% under Trumpcare.
Additionally, the GOP’s House-passed health care bill is incredibly unpopular, with just 8% of Americans thinking the Senate should approve the House-passed Trumpcare bill.
“The GOP’s House-passed health care overhaul is so disastrous that even President Trump is abandoning it,” stated Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber. “It goes to show that spiking costs, gutting protections for folks who’ve been sick before, and ripping away health coverage from Missourians simply isn’t going to fly.”
