COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Democratic Party is today launching a countdown clock until the Republican cuts to the minimum wage for workers in St. Louis go into effect on August 28th.
The minimum wage in St. Louis increased to $10 an-hour in May. However, when the countdown clock hits zero, a wage-killing bill from Republicans in Jefferson City will slash the minimum wage back down to $7.70 an-hour, representing a 23% pay cut. The bill also prohibits Kansas City and all other local communities around Missouri from raising the minimum wage above the state level without approval from Jefferson City.
Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber added, “Missouri Democrats are fighting for higher wages because Missourians’ hard work is worth more than $7.70 an hour. In contrast, Jefferson City politicians like Eric Greitens are slashing paychecks and forcing Missourians to work for less.”
